About Soft Skill

Soft skills are interpersonal and interpersonal skills that determine a person's ability to at least fit in a particular social structure, such as a project team. For Improving the Soft skills of students that may also help improve their employment perspectives. Students acquire the skills to help them succeed in life.

  • Providing motivational training along with practical orientation that helps in carrier visioning and planning

Activities

1. Listening Skills

Students should rate this as the first skill that should be honed because it is very important while pursuing a higher education. One should hone this skill by involving actions such as nodding their head and making eye contact.

2. Positive Attitude

When the world is filled with many negative factors, one has to win hearts with a positive approach. Starting from teachers to friends, everyone will look for someone who drives the academic year with a positive attitude. Students have to hone this skill to maintain their friendly atmosphere with everyone at an educational institute. With a positive attitude, students should consider some key areas that will help them develop a positive attitude such as high energy, enthusiastic, confident, cooperative, patient, respectable, respectful and sense of humor.

3. Leadership Skills

For a student, one will always have decision to make. There will be opportunities like class election, and student union election and club president or representative leader that will test who the majority of people like and think should be a leader. But leaders can also come forth due to situations. Someone who is quick in thinking and can make the right decisions, coordinate other people and pull off an event or a situation with smooth functioning can spearhead as a leader.

4. Decision-making

Students have to learn how to make decisions within the given time. By doing, so they will have a stand of their own and will not have to depend on other people. By deciding which stream to pick, which electives to chose and which co-curricular activities they must go for, they learn what is best for them, which will form the foundation of this skill. Moreover, the people we choose as friends and the groups we mingle with also help us develop our personality. Even there, decision-making is important.

5. Teamwork

Students must understand the importance of unity. In higher levels of work, people will have to work together, in doing so many times they will have to confront each other and argue.

6. Creative Thinking

Students need to be creative in their approach in every aspect and it helps them understand the world in a better way and come up with answers that might give the rest of the world a new perspective. Ideation and creation are, thus, very elemental parts of education.

7. Problem Solving

To each students improve problem-solving skills is very important because we live in an uncertain world, where any sort of situation can turn into an unfavorable one. Students should know how to solve situational problems.

 

2. LANGUAGE & COMMUNICATION SKILL

NCERC has a modern Language Laboratory with state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment to aid in imparting language skills. The Laboratory is effectively utilized by the students and the faculty members for various self-enhancement and soft skill development activities. It aims at confidence-building among students for interactions and presentations in English. The basic purpose of the lab is to provide students a platform to enhance English language skills, communication skills and to practice soft skills. Currently Orell iTELL Digital Language Lab software is installed in the lab and it can be accessed over the intranet from any location in the college. Further, the language lab is equipped with audio recording facilities which help a great mode of evaluation and feedback. The main objectives of the Language Laboratory are:

  • To equip the students with good communication skills.
  • To emphasize the need of English in the technical world.
  • To prepare them for interviews and future job environments.
  • To train the students in the art of conversation and discussion.

 

3. LIFE SKILL-Yoga and Meditation

Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice originated in Bharat or India. The Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi in his UN address suggested the date of 21 June, as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world. For keeping stress at bay and to enable the students to tolerate the potential stress associated with life, Nehru college of engineering & Research centre organizes a physical exercise and yoga session every morning which is mandatory for all the students and faculty members. It helps them to maintain harmony of body and spirit. It also increases attention span, improves memory and sharpens the focus of the students. It is also prolific for stress reduction, and emotional wellness.

Benefits of yoga

Yoga has been studied and may be recommended to promote relaxation, reduce stress and improve some medical conditions such as premenstrual syndrome. Yoga is considered to be a low-impact activity that can provide the same benefits as "any well-designed exercise program, increasing general health and stamina, reducing stress, and improving those conditions brought about by sedentary lifestyles". It is particularly promoted as a physical therapy routine, and as a regimen to strengthen and balance all parts of the body.


 

LIFE SKILL-Physical fitness

The college has got a well-equipped gymnasium to cater to the mental and physical well-being of the students. To maintain a healthy mind, it is essential to maintain a healthy body. Students are encouraged to do regular exercise in order to keep themselves fit and healthy. It is indeed a stress reliever for the students and helps them to keep away from the modern life style diseases like diabetes and cancer. The gym trainer Mr. Lohidakshan has several years of experience in managing gym and he has introduced world class cutting edge equipment so as to enable the students and faculty members to get the best health and fitness benefits. In addition to Mr.Lohidakshan, we also have esteemed Physical Education Director, Mr.Jyothish who is unscrupulously engaged in getting the students in good shape by advocating physical training sessions of high caliber to add on to the day to day monotonous classroom sessions, so as to improve the physical and mental aptitude to keep track of the massive knowledge absorption process in the classrooms.


4. ICT/COMPUTING SKILLS

Information and communication technology is used for the students to provide the basic fundamentals of computer and their functionality. Students have gained the knowledge to understand the basic programs and to know about the hardware components. The program provides an ability to work in different platform environments. It enhances the students leaming through the interaction and collaboration. Infosys and Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre had entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with respect to enriching the technical education process and to jointly work for enhancing the quality of education imparted to students,faculty and management of selected colleges of the university related to the field of Information Technology(IT). We are providing Infosys Campus Connect FP 4.0 advanced level focused in Python programming and Oracle Database Management System.

Every year the first year students will be given training and they are utilizing this opportunity to improve their knowledge & skill sets required by industries. The practical classes have been conducted in laboratories to improve their programming skills. Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre has a model by which NPTEL videos are discussed through smart classrooms.
